| Since 1981, STAR (Solutions Toward Addiction Recovery) Council has been quietly providing needed services to those families suffering from substance abuse challenges. We are a 501c3 charitable organization whose motto is “Making a difference, one family at a time." Our team of dedicated professional educators and counselors is passionate about providing prevention, intervention and treatment services to Archer, Clay, Erath, Hood, Jack, Johnson, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Wichita, Wise, and Young county residents. Primarily funded by contracts from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and matching funds from the United Ways of the supported counties, each year STAR Council provides LifeSkills Training to 4,360 students in 27 schools as well as intervention services for up to 200 “At-Risk Youth” and specialized education and counseling for children whose parents are in our treatment programs. These nationally recognized programs increase the youth’s resilience to the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Our Community Coalition Programs help communities mobilize their internal resources to promote a positive environment where underage and abusive drinking is unacceptable and illicit drug use is not tolerated. This year our Treatment Programs, including Youth, Adult, Specialized Female, and Co-Occurring Mental and Substance Abuse programs will help over 1,200 community members understand, find and keep sobriety. |
