Alcohol Education Program for Minors

Section 06.115 of the Alcoholic Beverage Code establishes an alcohol awareness course as an important dispositional measure in cases of alcohol offenses by minors, including driving while intoxicated, purchase of alcohol by a minor, attempt to purchase alcohol by a minor, consumption of alcohol by a minor, driving under the influence of alcohol by a minor, possession of alcohol by a minor or misrepresentation of age by a minor.

STAR Council offers the Alcohol Awareness Course that meets the requirements of these laws. Upon the conviction of a minor for one of the above offenses, the court, in addition to assessing a fine, may require the minor defendant to attend this educational course. If the minor is younger than 16 years of age, the court may require the parent or guardian of the minor to attend the program with the minor.

The cost of the 6 hour course is $55. Each person must pre-registered in order to gain entrance into the course. Class starts promptly at 6pm each night and runs until 9pm. Students must arrive not later than 5:45pm on the 1st night of the course and should plan to stay for an out brief at the end of the second night. Stephenville classes will be held at 239 South Virginia St. in Stephenville. Granbury classes will be held at 2111 W. Highway 377 in Granbury. Vernon classes will be held at 2604 McKinney St. in Vernon. For registration information, call 800-375-1395.
