Age and gender appropriate programs and services that address addiction, sexual abuse, self-esteem, victimization, risky behaviors, and wellness are provided to participants. Specialized programs and services are available for females with unique needs.

COPSD - Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Disorders

COPSD services provide intensive case management for those clients who suffer from both a psychiatric disorder and a substance abuse disorder. The case manager works with the client to ensure that appropriate services are scheduled and attended. This specialist will also engage the client in intensive motivational counseling and education on an individual basis as well as specialized groups.

In-person Problem Identification, Screening and Evaluation:

Problem assessment is conducted for potential clients in a confidential setting. The purpose of a screening and evaluation is to gain information to identify an individual’s strengths, problems and needs as they relate to the use and/or abuse of alcohol or other drugs. Our staff is trained to administer the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI) for determining needs of potential clients, in addition to the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) to determine the client’s severity of addiction. Recommendations may include inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, support group attendance, or referral to other resources.

Referral and Placement:

If an individual does not meet criteria for intensive or supportive outpatient treatment services, he/she will be referred to appropriate resources. Staff will assist the individual in contacting other resources and making initial appointments.

Follow-Up:

Contact is made with clients after completion of services to determine continued sobriety as well as how the client felt about the quality of the service received at STAR Council.
