Community Coalition Coordinator

Summary:

The purpose of the Community Coalition Partnership is to mobilize the community to implement evidence-based environmental strategies with a primary focus to change policies and influence social norms related to substance use and misuse. Community Coalition Partnerships (CCPs) will address the State’s four prevention priorities: underage alcohol use, tobacco and nicotine products, marijuana and other cannabinoids, and prescription drug misuse. Counties covered are Erath and Johnson.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report to STAR Council and coalition leadership. 

  • Work as a team member with STAR Council staff/Directors to meet program goals. 

  • Continually broaden expertise in the area of substance abuse and serve as resource person. 

  • Conduct literature/resource reviews to identify best practices for coalition. 

  • Represent coalition through professional association locally and statewide (and nationally when required). 

  • Recruit and maintain a diverse coalition membership with local and state partners. 

  • Coordinate coalition activities such as: 

    • Conducting, updating and expanding the community needs assessment. 

    • Completing and submitting all state required documentation by deadline. 

    • Conducting approved prevention strategies as outlined in the state contract.

    • Collecting, managing, and analyzing community health indicators data. 

    • Developing health policies related to substance use. 

    • Collaborating with local, state and national organizations focusing on substance use. 

  • Assist coalition members in conducting annual strategic planning and guide coalition to develop a comprehensive action plan based on needs assessment and strategic planning. 

  • Develop and implement data collection methods, tools and evaluation measures for coalition activities and associated projects in conjunction with coalition members. 

  • Coordinate and facilitate coalition meetings and communicate effectively with members to promote collaboration, negotiation and problem solving. 

  • Plan, coordinate and conduct educational and training activities. 

  • Continually maintain and develop content for the coalition website. 

  • Collaborate and work closely with community sectors as outlined in the state contract, as well as any individuals, business and health organizations with an interest in reducing instances of substance use in and around Erath County.

  • Continuously evaluate coalition effectiveness and coalition strategic plan. 

  • Conduct a Comprehensive Community Needs Assessment (CNA) that guides the identification of community prevention priorities based on local data and resources.

  • Seek and write grant proposals to obtain additional funding. 

  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Education and/or Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Policy, Health Education or related field preferred. 

  • Certification Required: working towards getting an Associate Prevention Specialist (APS), to be completed within 1 year.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge Email/Web Internet software; Excel Spreadsheets Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word software.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work and activities of coalition administrative support staff. Supervise, mentor as well as direct the work activities of student interns and assigned temporary staff.
